The first series of the BBC’s comedy drama Thin Ice, set in a Derby ice rink (the Derby Ice “Bowel”) has finished. The program was shot at Whitley Bay ice rink in 2005.

Dancing on Ice is over, and the winner is Gaynor Faye. But did you know that Daniel, Gaynor’s skating partner, has skated with Island coach Terri Fleming in Germany?

Dancing on Ice has encouraged a huge take-up of lessons at the rink, with more than 50 skaters on Saturdays, and over 100 on Sundays. On Sundays, demand is such that the rink is running two classes, one at 10am and one at 10.30am. The daytime public session now starts at 11am.
